Novel film about a girl who not only turns Leo ‘s head but also enriches the whole school with her unconventional way.
Leo Borlock (Graham Verchere) grows up with his single mother and is a loner at his school. His “normal” life between lessons, rehearsals with the school band and time with classmate Kevin (Karan Braar) is turned upside down when Susan “Stargirl” Caraway (Grace VanderWaal) comes to his school.
Already with her striking look she stands out from her classmates and makes a pretty impression on the shy Leo with her unconventional behavior. But not only that, with her inspiring songs, she even manages to help the unlucky football team achieve its first victory. Will Leo be able to overcome his shyness and approach the mysterious girl?
As early as 2015, Disney announced that it wanted to film Jerry Spinelli’s * novel of the same name. “Stargirl” was staged by Julia Hart, who herewith presents her third directorial work after “Miss Stevens” and “Fast Color”. Kristin Hahn (“Dumplin ‘”) and “La La Land” producer Jordan Horowitz are responsible for the script adaptation.
In front of the camera we see Grace VanderWaal as an ominous “star girl” and in her first role in a film. Nevertheless, VanderWaal is no stranger to the USA, where she is particularly famous for her vocal talents: in 2016 she won the eleventh season of “America’s Got Talent” at the age of just twelve, and the following year she released her first studio album. At her side we see newcomers Graham Verchere (“The Good Doctor”, “Summer of 84”), Karan Brar (known from the Disney series “Jessie”), also Giancarlo Esposito and Darby Stanchfield.
