Marriage Story

Nicole (Scarlett Johannsson) and Charlie (Adam Driver) go through the typical phases of a relationship. The great love, a harmonious marriage, the son together and then the silence follows. You are one of those couples who cannot live without each other, but eventually cannot live together. The word divorce is in the room and the debate begins, what is most important in their lives.
The paths lead to the other place in the country. Charlie works as an off-Broadway theater director in New York, Nicole wants to start a new life as an actress in Los Angeles. In order to share custody as possible without a war of roses and to get the divorce quickly, she consults the star lawyer Nora Fanshaw (Laura Dern). But soon the pair of endless domestic flights, overpriced second homes, quirky family views and accumulating legal fees get in the way.
With “Marriage Story” Noah Baumbach stages his next great melodrama, which is taken directly from life. After “The Meyerowitz Stories (New and Selected)”, Baumbach worked again with Netflix. “Marriage Story” will start streaming on Netflix on December 6, 2019, before that the film will be shown in selected cinemas on November 21, 2019.
For the leading roles, he combines the indie icons Scarlett Johansson (“Lost in Translation”) and Adam Driver (“Paterson”), who have also gained a foothold in major Hollywood productions. “Marriage Story” marks the fourth collaboration between Baumbach and Driver.
The cast is complemented by stars such as Laura Dern, Merritt Weaver or Ray Liotta. The script was written by Baumbach himself. The world premiere took place as part of the Venice Film Festival 2019, at the Toronto Film Festival 2019 a short time later “Marriage Story” received second place as the best public film.
