John Wick is not Boogeyman – Wick (Keanu Reeves) is the man you hire to kill Boogeyman. But after the events of “John Wick” (2014) and “John Wick: Chapter 2” (2017), the cool killer himself is on the hit list. But Wick has one advantage: As an outcast, he does not have to follow any rules. Wick is out for war this time!
Motorcycle ninjas and a chase on horseback: The first teaser trailer for “John Wick: Chapter 3” definitely makes you want more!
John Wick has lost everything: wife, dog, house, and finally belonging to the secret society of the New York Underground. When Wick murders Camorra boss Santino D’Antonio (Riccardo Scamarcio) in the Continentals’ halls, he breaks one of the killer’s most important rules. Even Winston (Ian McShane), owner of the hotel, and the loyal concierge Charon (Lance Reddick) can not intervene – Wick is declared an excommunicado, he is barred, outlawed.
With a bounty of $ 14 million on his back, Wick turns into a walking target. Every killer in New York will fall for him, no matter how legendary his reputation is. Wick has to eradicate the evil at the root: the high table where the bosses of the world’s largest mafia organizations sit together. Especially the Jakuza (Hiroyuki Sanada) seems to be after Wick. Old enemies (Common and Ruby Rose) and possibly new friends (Halle Berry as killer Sofia) are waiting for Wick.
When Keanu Reeves wears his suit and stirs up the underworld of New York, we can expect explosive action fireworks. The “John Wick” franchise has skilfully conquered the conventions of action film, broken it and created its own world. To the delight of the fans, the third part is not – as has long been expected – the conclusion of the series, meanwhile, a fourth film has been confirmed.
“Si vis pacem, para bellum,” is a Latin saying that in English means something like “If you want peace, prepare for war.” The working title of “John Wick 3” alludes to this saying. This is Parabellum, not only evoking associations with the proverb, but also the famous Luger self-loading pistol called Parabellum. In July 2018, the working title of Keanu Reeves was confirmed as the official film title of the English original.
Even the working title of the new action cracker promises a hearty escalation. Responsible for this are again screenwriter Derek Kolstad and director Chad Stahelski, who were already behind the enormous success of the two predecessors. Good thing that in “John Wick: Chapter 3” is paid to continuity. While other movie franchises hit the headlines with ever-changing directors, shifts, and last-minute re-shots, “John Wick” has raised the bar for contemporary action.
Reunion is known to delight and so sets “John Wick: Chapter 3” on old acquaintances. The cast includes not only Ian McShane (“Jawbone”) as Continental owner and Lance Reddick (“Oldboy”) as cool concierge Charon. Confirmed is also the cast of Laurence Fishburne (“Ant-Man and the Wasp”), who plays as Bowery King one of the most powerful bosses in New York. Whether John Leguizamo (“The Infiltrator”) returns as a mechanic Aurelio, is questionable.
