It Chapter Two

Pennywise is back – in the sequel to the horror hit “ES” by Andrés Muschietti based on the novel by Stephen King, the horror clown returns to Derry.
The losers’ club had believed that they defeated the horror clown Pennywise. But the horror has just retired to the drains of Derry to lick his wounds. With the horror film remake “ES” from 2017, director Andrés Muschietti broke all records and even replaced “The Exorcist” in the USA as the most commercially successful horror film of all time. In the second part, Bill Skarsgård returns as Pennywise to teach fear to a completely new cast.
Twenty-seven years after the terrible events of Stephen King’s “ES”, bloody incidents are mounting in the small American town of Derry. A gay couple is first attacked by Pennywise (Bill Skarsgård). The former club of the losers, however, gets nothing of it, because the friends of that time are scattered in all directions. Only Mike Hanlon (Isaiah Mustafa) stayed in Derry to watch if the horror clown returns. Plagued by panic, he calls the losers together again.
So much has changed in the last two decades. Beverly Marsh (Jessica Chastain) is now managing a fashion company, but is married to the violent Tom Rogan (Will Beinbrink), who does not allow his wife to return to Derry. Stammering Bill Denbrough has made it a successful writer, formerly overweight Ben Hanscom (Jay Ryan) is a star-studded star architect, chitchat Richie Tozier a hip radio presenter and entertainer.
The call from Mike Hanlon also wakes Eddie Kaspbrak (James Ransone) out of his 27-year slumber. In the case of Stan Uris (Andy Bean), on the other hand, the news triggers a lifeless fear. When the members of the club meet again in Derry, they are slow to remember their past. Everything seems extinguished and forgotten. But not only Pennywise lurks in the background. It also leads the psychopathic Henry Bowers (Teach Grant) back to the small town. Pennywise whispers to him.
When director Andrés Muschietti (“Mama”) released the remake of the television rerun of the year 1990 in cinemas in 2017, the expectation was high. After all, the film version of the world-famous book by Stephen King was one of the horror films that had shaped a generation. Unforgotten is Tim Curry as a sadistic clown Pennywise. But Muschietti made the tightrope act: the remake trailer alone was called up 197 million times within 24 hours – a world record!
In contrast to the TV movie from the 90s, Muschietti split the story of the original text into two parts. The first part told the story of the club of losers. In turn, the children have grown up in “ES 2”. Thus, the jumping back and forth between different time levels is unnecessary and the horror comes clearly clearer structured therefore. For some flashbacks, the children actors of the first part (especially Jaeden Lieberher and Sophia Lillis) are also in the second part of the party again.
For the adults Muschietti has drummed up an illustrious cast. The cast of “ES 2” features star actors such as Oscar-nominated Jessica Chastain (“Molly’s Game”) and James McAvoy (“Split”). The adult losers’ club is run by Bill Hader (“Dating Queen”), Jay Ryan (“Top of the Lake”), James Ransone (“Sinister II”), Andy Bean (“The Destiny – Allegiant”), and Isaiah Mustafa ( “Kill the Boss”) completes. They will not all survive. Because even in “ES 2” Bill Skarsgård (“Assassination Nation”) can romp as Pennywise again.
