The MonsterVerse goes into a new round – this time it gets to do Godzilla with the Kaijus Mothra, Rodan and the three-headed Ghidorah. The earth will shake!
In the successful reboot “Godzilla” of 2014, only a nuclear catastrophe could be averted by Godzilla himself took it with two primal monsters. In the sequel the giant lizard returns. This time three iconic opponents are waiting for Godzilla.
Where does Godzilla come from and what drives him? And how could the monsters from the first part arise? Questions that the secret organization Monarch deals with to protect the global population from further Kaiju attacks. Monarch also includes the scientist Dr. med. Emma Russell (Vera Farminga). Together with her husband Mark Russell (Kyle Chandler), Emma has the daughter Madison (Millie Bobby Brown). But as a renewed Kaiju attack is imminent, the family threatens to break.
On its own, Madison has to fear for her survival. Meanwhile, Godzilla reappears from the depths of the Pacific. Monarch has spotted well-known opponents of the giant lizard: Mothra, Rodan and the three-headed Ghidorah draw a swath of destruction. Not an easy fight, even for the mighty giant lizard Godzilla. But where do the attackers come from? Is even Monarch himself behind it? A detailed review of “Godzilla 2: King of Monsters” can be found here, as well as a more detailed assessment of the FSK for parents.
Still comparatively few details to the plot of “Godzilla 2: King of Monsters” are known. Confirmed is merely the appearance of Mothra, Rodan and Ghidorah, which were introduced more than a decade ago in the Japanese “Godzilla” series. How the second part of the predecessor links, is not yet clear. In any case, there is continuity with regard to the cast. So again are Ken Watanabe (“Inception”) and Sally Hawkins (“Shape of Water”) as the Monarch scientists. Ishiro Serizawa and dr. Vivienne Graham with us.
The cast of Vera Farminga (“Conjuring 2”), who plays the role of paleo-biologist Dr. Emma Russell will hatch. The scientist finds a way to communicate via sound waves with the Kaiju, maybe even to control it. At the center of “Godzilla 2: King of Monsters” is Russell’s family, which is played by Kyle Chandler (“Breaking to the Moon”) and “Stranger Things” star Millie Bobby Brown.
When the first “Godzilla” remake was staged by Gareth Edwards (“Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”), Michael Dougherty (“Krampus”) took over the post in the sequel.
With the “Godzilla” franchise, Warner and Legendary are planning their own film universe, the so-called MonsterVerse. The opening event was “Godzilla” of 2014, followed by “Kong: Skull Island” (2017). After “Godzilla 2: King of Monsters” Godzilla is finally in “Godzilla Vs. Kong “on the giant monkeys. To create some continuity between the monster movies, screenwriter Max Borenstein has been involved in all projects so far and is also featured in “Godzilla Vs. Kong “work out the characters again.
